From the shape of the window and the location it is probably the remains of a parish church. Most catholic churches were destroyed in the 17th and 18th cent. at a time of considerable social and religious change. Old churches like this dot the landscape and it was and is common for local people to bury there dead in and around these churches.

I love in this picture how the top of the opening is constructed. Great work! On the same cemetery is this ruin, they belong together.
