Great picture!

Larry, I wanted to write to this photo before, but I had to leave. This photo is very impressing and it doesn't only show the scenery but also the people living in this surrounding. The donkey with his burden and the man taking a rest show even more the hardship of these steep mountains and the narrow paths they have to overcome. I love this excellent photo especially for those reasons and of course for the composition!

You must have been a part of an expedition to take this photo - great? Liebi Grüess, May

Grüezi May. Merci vilmal.

I hired Wurku and his mule, to take two of us back into the Simien Mountains. It was a day and half hike in. These are incredible mountains and are much different from any others I have visited. The time I was there is among the highlights of the three years I live in Ethiopia.

Oh, that is interesting and I regret so much, that I can't see the map and look at the mountains and valleys and passes. You must have learnt a lot of the people and the life circumstances in Ethiopia in those three years. Have you written about your experiences?

It's one of the reason I love Panoramio, that I can get into direct contact with people living in distant places or travelling in some remote areas, which I probably will never be able to see by myself and thus learn from them. I then feel a sweet and painful longing to discover those places and getting to know the people living there, a longing, which is part of me since my childhood.

Thank you very much, Larry!

Ditto on the effective story-telling photo, and ditto on the allure of Panoramio.

Merci vilmal May! I have not really written much about my experience, but I have incorporated some of it into my work through publications I produce about the natural world.

Thank you very much Penny!

Best regards, Larry
