The Laws TurnTable was built in march 1883 by Carson & Colorado Railroad Master Carpenter George W. White & his crew of 9 men it was originally 48' diameter. In 1889 the turntable was dismantled & moved to Hammil some 20 miles to the north. In 1903 the Turntable was returned to its original location
& rebuilt to a 56' diam turntable. It is knows as a "A" Frame or " Gallows" Turntable. The table rotates on 16 wheels known as a " Spider" The Table itself wieghs 15 tons. # 9 & tender loaded wiegh 82 tons 97 tons of Table & locomotive were turned by Hand with 2-4 men pushing on poles that extend from the turntable ends. The table was painted Oxide or Box car red & has been semi retored to opperating condition where it can be turned but not to the point where you can put a locomotive on it. On the outer edge of the turntable are 4 wheels a few inches above a outer ring rail, this was added as a safety feature in 1903 if the turn table was not ballanced the table would tip & the wheels allowed the turntable to be turned with out the locomotive sliding off the table into the pit.
