The memory of this place still remains with me to this day.
Best regards from Washington state, Larry
I lived in a camp on Dalol in 1959-60. I had a chance to see the springs and fumeroles. We called one area the daisy patch. The area was hot and porous and tiny puffs of steam formed a precipitate that in time looked like a flower patch. A good gust of wind would eventually wipe out the display, but it would immediately begin anew. It was my second job after college but it remains the greatest adventure of my life.
That is very interesting. I can hardly imagine spending that much time in Dalol because of the dryness, heat, and desolation. I lived in Makalle which was much milder because of the elevation. My time there is also one of the great adventures of my life.
Warmest regards, Larry

Hi Larry I've seen your photos about Ethiopia. I've been in Mekelle coming from Dallol and Erta Ale Volcan and going back to Addis. I have many photos similar to yours and I hope to have time to post in Pano. Now the situation around the borders with Eritrea is not so easy.About a month ago in Erta Ale 5 tourists were killed by a terrorist commando (perhaps eritrean??)and I was there 20 days before. My uncle lived in Dire Dawa- Ethiopia from 1940 to 1967 and there is buried. Ciao my friend !!
I understand there are many problems along the border. That is too bad. I knew several Italians in Mekelle while I lived there. Hope to see more of your Ethiopian images. Cordiali saluti, Larry
