Mr. Wood Duck caught relaxing in his backyard, without his toupee or make-up!
:)...and he looks quite ordinary.
LOL, he sure does. But I guess he needs a break from being the handsomest duck on the planet for 8 or 9 months of the year! Pretty hard to believe this is they looked like this not too long ago. Thanks Laurel!
Those reflections of the heads make the ducks look so funny.
LOL! You never see pictures of them without their make-up.
Thanks M! Its also funny how this photo almost looks like a painting printed in an old magazine or something. It was a really hazy day, and with the drought we've been having, the pond is pretty low and covered with algae. The ducks almost blended right in!
LOL Norrel - and now you can see why! Sort of like 'The Man Behind the Curtain' in the Wizard of Oz! In years past, I've always assumed male ducks just went somewhere else in late summer since I never noticed any. It was only after reading about them this winter that I realized that most molt and look like the females in the late summer before developing new breeding plumage in the autumn. The strange thing is that the ducks seem to KNOW that they are incognito! Wood ducks are notoriously shy, and usually fly at the sight of any human. This pair was right near the main entry to the trail system, completely unconcerned with the people nearby. And I doubt anyone but me realized they weren't mallards. But those crazy orange eyes gave him away!
I too looked at the eyes to check if they really are wood ducks. They aren't able to change their contact lenses.
I hate to say it, but they could be crows...
hmmm, or.....they might be giants!
I think maybe whoelius is closer than Norrel in his guess! Especially since Penguin sure wears a lot of make-up when he's out and about!
If they were flying they might be plane ducks.
lolol, well, since they are Wood ducks, I don't think they want a plane anywhere near them!
Thanks ernest. I see you are ernestly aiming for votes in the 'click my button' contest this month.
