This old photo shows my father (standing far right, in a swimming costume like Captain Webbs!) and my mother (standing right-middle, "posed" like a model with her arm up!) with various aunts, uncles, grandfather/mother. The beach may be at Llandudno or nearby in North Wales - bb

This photo was taken on Goodrington beach in Torbay bb From that aspect it's not changed. Y & LIKE*.

Jim Mills on September 23, 2010

Really Tone; I never expected anyone would be able to identify this location! Thanks for that and the YS & like. That means this photo may also be taken at Torbay:

Best wishes - bb

Sorry bb it's Broadsands not Goodrington. I always muddle them up as they are next door to each other. Tone

Jim Mills on September 23, 2010

Thats okay Tone. I looked on Google Earth and suspected the photo was taken a little further along the coast. Your decision about the one at Torre Abbey gardens was spot on though! I've seen modern day photos near the same spot and the only major difference is that the pond has been removed. Thanks for your keen interest - bb

Jim Mills on September 23, 2010

It's my turn to say I got it a little wrong Tone! I've just looked up really close on Google Earth and discovered that the "pond" or lake at Torre Abbey gardens is still there and still right next to the golf links or crazy golf! How nice to see that some things don't change that much even after 80 or more years! Best wishes - bb

Thanks for the link to an up to date photo of Broadsands Tone. I found one of your own photos in Google Earth which shows the distinctive rock at the end of the headland clearly, thereby clearly identifying this as the correct location. Unfortunately you've titled it "Goodrington Beach"! - bb

Thank you my friend i found a couple of others earlier, looking towards Broadsands from the main road which were miss named by me lol. When i was looking for that photo you found:)) for as you say it has that headland. Anyway what a fascinating encounter this has been where we have helped each other so randomly. What are the chances of that. Tone

Jim Mills on September 24, 2010

Indeed Tone a great example of mutual cooperation, both intentional and accidental. In the process you've increased the "hits" for this photo about 4 times! I've done several "hits" on yours as well, both intentionally and accidentally while looking up and down the Torbay coast for this exact location. I've enjoyed the whole process, thanks to the the chance of coming across you in Panoramio. I've had some similar incidents with other Panoramio users who must have literally followed my footsteps up various mountains in Europe, but this has the added delight of spanning 80 or more years and following the footsteps of my now long gone relatives - absolutely fascinating! Thanks a million - bb
