Draken, you have been reading my mind. In the meantime there are many mammals you have to help save from extinction. You still have lots left, and Gudrun (Cologne10?) has passed you. What about a Puma?

Hi Daan

Well, I think I have run out of mammals. I wish I had a photo of a puma!!

We always remember our "Pumas" were named so in SA (1967 tour, methinks) but the animal on the rugby shirt is not a puma in fact. It is a yaguareté

Thanks for that info, I didn't know that. Now I know a little something about Argentinian rugby to confound the guests around the braai fire! The famous retired Springbok fly-half, Naas Botha, is the cousin of one of my sons-in-law. BTW, all three my sons-in-law have joined Panoramio, but they are somewhat lazy to upload.

On that first tour the SA newspapers said the Argentinian National Rugby Team (all amateurs) played fiercely like the pumas on their shirts. It was a yaguareté but by a simple mistake they were nicknamed "Los Pumas" as they are known since then.

I hope "Los Pumas" will join SA, NZ and the Aussies in the expanded "Four Nations" tournament from next year onwards.
