Strange bird. I believe this is a female Rusty Blackbird (Euphagus carolinus) molting into fall plumage. Odd, though, because they're wintering birds in SC. This's the closest I can get to ID'ing this bird. A great website full of real expert experts is Whatbird Forums. You have to become a member, but that'll only take a few seconds.

Liam, Thank you kindly for providing the example of the Rusty Blackbird ... to me it looks almost identical. I think I shall adopt the name!
