'Cadmos being one from the Egyptian Thebes, begat among the other children, Semele who after being corrupted by someone and became pregnant, had given birth after seven months to a baby having the appearence of Osiris, as Osiris was thought to be by the Egyptians. This (child) was not given life whether it was the will of the gods or because the nature does not tolerate such a thing. When Cadmos found out about the event and having an oracle to maintain the customs of his ancestors, gilded the infant and practiced the appropriate sacrifices as the epiphany of Osiris among men. He attributed the birth to Zeus, solemnifying Osiris and taking away the insult from the corrupted.' From Diodoros' of Sicily Library of History. Book 1:23(4-6).
