HMCC Seeker in the Tug Haven near the Tidal Harbour and Marina of Dover Harbour at 5.47 am on Friday, September 3rd, 2010.

There's some blurring of the top of the cutter's mast indicating some machinery is in use (further activity is shown by the water gushing from the stern outlet).

Behind HMCC Seeker are the two Dover Harbour Board tugs, DHB Dauntless (left; IMO: 9190456) and DHB Doughty (right; IMO 9190468); the Dover Harbour Board dredger, David Church (IMO 9112193) is to the right of the customs cutter.

I've been wondering if HMCC Seeker's appearance in Dover's Western Docks is somehow connected to a news report titled, "Illegal immigrants en route to North East held" - but perhaps not, because the events described happened in Calais.

Anyway, the above zoomed photo was taken 500 yards away from St Martins Battery on top of the Western Heights cliffs. It needed a thirty second exposure so I'm pleased it turned out alright :)

HMCC Seeker, a Damen Stan 4207-type Patrol Vessel, is the lead ship of the UK Border Agency's fleet of 42-metre customs patrol vessels. She was built in 2001 in Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands (Holland), and has a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure. Much effort has been expended in making her quiet to reduce crew fatigue; her engines are raft-mounted, decks throughout the ship are of a floating type, and her compartments are constructed on a box-within-a-box principle.

Her 7-metre (23 ft) Rigid Inflatable Boat can be launched from her stern slipway. She is fitted with a 2,000-litre (440 imperial gallons) per minute fire fighting system for dealing with fires in other ships.

She is fitted with twin Caterpillar 3516B DI-TA Elec engines driving twin 4-bladed controllable-pitch propellers through a pair of 3.5:1 reduction gearboxes. The total installed power of 4,176 kW (5,600 hp) gives her a top speed of 26 knots (48 km/h). A single Promac bow thruster is fitted for slow speed manoeuvring in confined spaces. Electrical power is supplied by a pair of 106kWA generators.

The Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise Departments merged to form Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs on 18 April 2005, and from this time customs cutters changed their prefix from "HMRC" (Her Majesty's Revenue Cutter) to "HMCC" (Her Majesty's Customs Cutter).

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) is the border control body of the United Kingdom (UK) government and part of the Home Office. It was formed on 1 April 2008 by a merger of the Border and Immigration Agency (BIA), UKvisas and the port of entry functions of HM Revenue and Customs.

From Dredger David Church Renewed and Upgraded at Dredging Today on 16th October, 2012:

Dover Harbour Board's (DHB) maintenance dredger David Church has recently undergone a comprehensive GBP 485,000 refit to relife the vessel for another 15 years service...

...The crane is a Pulleman PLM 50 which is dual purpose as it is fully certified as a lifting crane up to a maximum load of 15t at a radius of 6 metres. The David Church is now available to the market for charter and contract dredging.
