Olympos, Livadi - OCT. 2010 CONTEST

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Olympos is the highest mountain in Greece (2.914 metres), the land of the hellenic twelve gods of the mythology. In proximity of the mountain, about 15 Km before Katerini (coming from Athens), is situated Dion, ancient city dedicated to Zeus (Dias), with well kept ancient ruins. Into the archeological area is situated also the museum of Dion. It' s a magical area for a good sight to the mountain, where there is a ski resort in Elatohori, and many beautiful villages, like Plaka, Milies and Kato Milies into a great green landscape. Near the sea is situated Litochoro with a lot of modern resorts and tourism, especially from Eastern Europe.

Livadi is a village of 2.000 inhabitants at the south - west side of the mountain, on the 45 km of the road Katerini - Elassona, with traditional houses and food, many beautiful traditional hotels and an amazing view to the east side of the mountain and from the south and west a fantastic view to the Thessalian plain. Hereby you can admire magical sunsets over the plain. In proximity of Livadi there is Agios Dimitrios, very nice village, but it is very difficult to find the archeological site nearby the village.
