Very pretty and geometrically interesting landscape, Ian. I'm afraid that I can't identify where you took it. One big clue is the major highway in the bottom part of the photo (straighter) and the minor highway in the upper part of the photo (more crooked.) Good luck with the identification and keep on shooting!
At last I have located this magnificent scenery.
I believe that I was looking over the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation upstream of Duschesne, Utah. The Strawberry River is the major valley in the background, and Federal Route 191 can be seen running the length of the major valley in the foreground.
Perhaps I have to now change the name of the photo from Colorado Quilt to Utah Underlay! Certainly the underlying geology is revealed in this stark but colourful landscape.
Peter from Switzerland who uses the Panoramio signature swiss-guy has some great images of the region, including a couple of photos of Route 191.
Also quite a photo, Ian! Marilyn
Dear Marilyn, and Bulbas,
I was enthralled for the whole of this flight from San Francisco to Denver. My eyes examined every landform below, and the camera was held at the ready.
Since I have enjoyed hours on Google Earth exploring the route and viewing the ground photos that have been added through Panoramio.
Thank you both for your empathetic comments.
Great patterned landscape shot Ian!
