Tampere is called Tammerfors in Swedish. Fors mean water stream. So I guess the pics shows part of reason for the Swedish name of Tampere. This water way goes between the lakes Näsijärn and Pyhäjärvi. The latter means holy lake and apparently is a fairly common lake name in Finland.

Yes, and 'pyhä' in the names of the lakes, rivers etc. comes from an earlier meaning of the word. 'Pyhä' used to mean 'border' or 'divider' so the most common use nowadays as in 'pyhäpäivä' means a day that divides the run of time, wether it is the weekly Sunday or a specific holiday.

How did this lead to the use of 'pyhä' as 'sacred' or 'holy', I won't try to explain. :-)
