Old school building, now being a guest house.
Skogsholmen resides within the UNESCO World Heritage of Vega (see motivation below). It can be reached by ferries (hurtigbåt) from Vega or Sandnessjoen, or by kayak.
This house is a former school until 1972, were children from the surrounding islands spent weeks living in the house.
This is now a guest house, the last years in charge of Stein Hansen, and he provides excellent food. We spent one night there.
Within the house there is an excellent photo exhibition reflecting the life on the islands.
The motivation for the World Heritage is:
"Reflects the way generations of fishermen/farmers have, over the past 1500 years, maintained a sustainable living in an inhospitable seascape near the Arctic Circle, based on the now unique practice of eider down harvesting, and it also celebrate the contribution made by women to the eider down process".
