The Great Redan (Bastion No. 3) was the scene of fierce fighting between Russian's defending Sevastopol and attacking British Infantry. It never fell, but was abandoned when the Russian's left Sevastopol after the French took Malakhov Hill (Bastion No. 2) on 8 September 1855
