Duxford 1968 - B of B film -Susannah York

There were several takes of this scene. I was holding off a Chipmunk with Ben Fisz in the back, about 5 miles south, waiting to come in and land. Because it was live sound, there could be no other noises. Susannah is centre left looking at her 'dead' WAAFs under the blankets. Director Guy Hamilton is in the white hat in the bomb crater extreme right. Between shots there was a lot of giggling going on under the blankets. At one point Guy Hamilton noticed that although the WAAFs had been 'blown up', their stockings were in perfect condition. He came across, took a penknife from his pocket, cut holes in them and smeared earth on the girls legs. Great attention to detail. This was all going on at the same time as the burning hangar and overturned truck which was being righted in another photo. It had to be pushed over on its side again for each take. Taken with my Rollei from the back window on the stairs to the ATC tower.
