Ocmulgee River Bridge, Lumber City, Georgia. This through-truss SouthernRailway bridge once rotated on it's center pier to allow Steamboats to pass. Southern also maintained wharves on the riverbank to transfer freight to and from the boats. No trace of these remain today.

A nice, solid, structural image, Mary Alice. And a good choice for monochrome, as you are able to do so well. Panoramio has added the 'Like' button since I was last here, so I am clicking it here for the first time (tho I'm not sure what happens to those 'Likes'...) An image very deserving of it at any rate. I hope this finds you well. I am delighted to see you ever posting your uniquely descriptive images and typing away ;-). Long belated greetings to my lls, (but I will always return) -alicia

Greetings, Joy, and thank you so much for your visit. You always make me feel very accomplished with your detailed critiques and careful observations. I am so happy that you enjoyed this shot as well as the other two in my new railway bridge series. Thank you again for everything that you said, and for enjoying my work. It is always an extra special treat hearing from you! Best wishes to you from Georgia tonight! :)

Hello there, Luis, and thank you so much for enjoying this ultra cool bridge! This was my first time seeing a rail bridge that rotates on it's axis too, so you can imagine my excitement! I'm so happy that you enjoyed it in black and white, and thank you again so much for your kind words and praise. I hope you are doing well tonight, and, again, I'm so pleased to be able to share this bridge with you. My best to you always .... :)

Good evening, Clive, and how are you on this fine September night? It's the last night of the month ...... I can't believe October is already upon us. Thank you so much for your generous praise. I'm delighted that you enjoyed the black and white treatment of this fine bridge. I wanted to wander on down the tracks as well, but because of the height, I had no escape if a train had snuck up on me. I kept a safe distance, but hope to have the opportunity to visit again one day soon! Maybe I will sneak on out there and see what other angles I can get! It's great to hear from you, and thank you again for your visit! Wishing you a wonderful October! :)

Erik, Thank you so much for your appreciation of this image, and especially enjoying it in monochrome. I couldn't agree with you more regarding colors sometimes distracting from an image. I love B & W for it's simplicity and dramatic edge. Do you really wake up at night with dreams of freight trains running through your head? That may be something you should look further into. I wonder what it could mean? ( or were you quoting lyrics from a song?) :) It's always GREAT hearing from you, my far away friend! All the best, and Happy FRIDAY greetings to you! :)

Dear Mirko, I am so flattered by your generous words. Thank you for adding this one to your favorites and enjoying it so much. I am truly very pleased and happy that I could share it with you here. Wishing you a fantastic weekend from way, way across the great big pond! :)

Greetings, Elena, and thank you so much for stopping by my gallery. I am delighted that you enjoyed this cool bridge, and thank you so much for the Yellow Star! I appreciate your praise greatly, and I wish you a most wonderful weekend. Happiest wishes to Spain! :)

Thank you SO much, Herve! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this bridge, and I appreciate your praise so much! Wishing you a very wonderful Friday, and thank you again for your visit. :)

Jim, Indeed, the pleasure was all mine! Your words always make me smile. I can't wait for you to get with Paula and watch the video! Yes, Yes, The LIVE version of everyone was really quite exciting. I, too, wish SO, SO much that I could have also been there for the occasion. Happy Paul is planning a trip to Georgia in 2012. Mike has also been kicking around the idea. Won't you consider making that long flight as well? Can you just image the fun we could get into? What could possibly be MORE fun and exciting? Thank you for stopping back by, and I wish you a very wonderful beginning to October. With warmest wishes always from your Little GA gal. :)

Alicia! My dearest LLS . . . Oh what a treat to find you here! I thought you had disappeared for good. Where on earth have you been hiding? Yes indeed, Pano has added a lot since you've been gone. Now you can also check out the statistics for each photo as well, which is actually pretty interesting. I am SO happy to hear from you, and I'm delighted that you've enjoyed this old trestle bridge. Thank you for your ever generous words, as you always did know how to make me feel so proud! Again, I'm so happy to hear from you once more. I hope everything has been great in your world. We have a lot of catching up to do, LLS! My very best to you! :)

Thank you all once more for visiting and enjoying this beautiful old bridge.

Best regards from Georgia,

Mark, Dear Mark ..... you have been greatly missed! Thanks so much for dropping by to see me once again. Yes, it has been a while, but you have been thought of often. Shame on me, as I should have visited you sooner as well, but it seems like things have just been so busy. Thank you so much for your very kind words. You always bring about a smile. Good evening to you Mary Alice Well thanks so much for saying I have been missed! that is so nice to know. You also have been thought of very often, but yes I do understand it when you say, that we get so busy! I can always count on finding an image in your gallery that seems to speak volumes to me, and this is one of them. So it is easy to give you praise on your wonderful work. Well fall here is on its way out, as we are getting snow showing on the mountains, and the morning temps are around freezing. It is so nice to be talking with you again too, it is always such a pleasure. I will try to visit you more often( and even just to get online)....
Thanks for your warm wishes and blessings... May the Lord bless and keep you.... in all things

I wore long without visiting your fantastic gallery and I found this fascinating perspective of this curious bridge, curious about story you tell. The slight haze at background completes a magnificent set

Yes, Mark, Absolutely, you have been missed! I'm so happy that you stopped back by. You never cease to make me smile. Thank you again for your generous words. Believe me, it is just as easy to praise your wonderful photographs, as I always enjoy wandering though your gallery as well. It is hard to believe that winter is already knocking at your door. We have finally just gotten a little burst of cooler temperatures, but nothing near freezing. Until today, we have still been in the upper 70's. So, I will be catching up with you more again soon, and until then, I wish you everything good and peaceful. May God continue to watch over you. :)

Hello there, Daniel, and thank you for visiting! I am delighted that you enjoyed this magnificent old trestle bridge! Isn't it just the coolest? I was mesmerized! :) Thank you for your interest and kind words. I'm so happy to be able to share it with you here, and I'm glad that you stopped by to comment. I hope this evening finds you very well.

All the best to you both,

Mary Alice
