is this natural colours? apparantly grasshopers have mutations going on now and they become red all over... (read in paper recently)

Exquisite colors, Jethro, and such a nice, sharp image --- I'm sure this one is destined for a contest somewhere.

David Brown Photogra… on September 20, 2010

Thank you Unda yes it is its natural colors.... I tried to research what it was and could not find a similar image anywhere. The nearest strange colors were Peru and Columbia!

Cheers Kevin I could not have made those up, they are too bizarre. I am sure that you are right but who is going to start a wacky coloured grasshopper (or katydid) contest?

Me perhaps........

Best wishes to both of you and I am delighted you enjoyed my little friend.

PS Kevin you will note NO HDR !

:o)

Kevin Childress on September 20, 2010

Oh yes, I noticed - an excellent job here without question.

... I shall try to assist with the identity!

Kevin how in hell's na.....

Well done mate. I managed to get a full night's sleep, so you pulled that one off very well in the wee hours! This page is amazing for very similar photographs.

We can even sex him.

Many thanks for solving that mystery.

Glad to be of service Jethro. I started the easy way: Google search for Katydids of North Carolina (I do the same for spiders, bird, etc). The first link returned was the Bug Guide you linked me to! I noticed a link there for long-horned varieties and then saw this page which has a picture of your katydid.

PS - your photo is FAR better than any others out there!

David Brown Photogra… on September 22, 2010

That is incredible Kevin its even in North Carolina and easy hopping distance from Penny's Bend.

Many thanks again.

He sure is handsome with all those brilliantly clear colors! The photography is superb! Like & Y*! Now I have to go follow all those links and see what you guys are talking about:)

joyfotos on September 23, 2010

Wow, I thought handsome was your tag not his name...as it sure fits. Kevin is right...your photo is by far better than any in the reference. It is a grand reference. I have used it a few times also. Your front page looks like a nature gallery:)

David Brown Photogra… on September 23, 2010

((Blush)) thank you Joy if I think I am becoming a nature photographer, then I am probably in the wrong place.

What the heck, I'll go take some HDRs out the car window again, it'll all be OK again then.

Lovely comments and appreciated by Jethro

Fancy bug! I've never seen this one in these parts. Fantastic photo!

Jethro, have you noticed the new photo stats? I clicked on yours and something seems to have happened on the 26th. You got a huge, huge number of views that day. I wonder which photo!! Please , will you lemme know if you discover the one?

Jean

Hi Jean & Jethro! Something strange has happened on Pano of late. I was looking at all my pages quickly this morning as I had added a new tag and was updating....a bunch of my photos have all at once jumped by fantastic numbers of view. Alas, I have no more time to investigate. All my Pano time for today is gone...spent with trouble uploading because of interruptions...and I am way behind on visits and comments::( Hope you both have a good day!

David Brown Photogra… on September 30, 2010

They don't even exist until the first time you see one Jean Then you see them all over the place and on other web sites!

Sorry to get philosophical, but I think its true.

Its gone bonkers Joy they have hooked up Panoramio with a subset of Google Analytics and it seems to have messed up the count on certain pictures on certain days around the 24th. Prolly test day!

Oh well.
