questo leone alato, un grifone, o meglio ancora il Marzocco, è il simbolo di Montepulciano; ora, non sono assolutamente esperto ed attratto dagli eventi storici, ma è interessante sapere che questo raffigura la secolare guerra tribale tra Firenze e Siena, di cui Montepulciano era terra di conquista in quanto avamposto privilegiato nella parte meridionale della Val di Chiana; possiamo immaginarci quanto sangue, olio bollente e saccheggi, nel suo "piccolo", abbia comportato tutto questo; ecco, questo leoncino alato è uno dei simboli di quell'epoca in cui la vita umana valeva non molto di più di un pasto.
