Cormorant Launch, East Machias River

Orinthologists may disagree, but the cormorant is just an ungainly bird. Taking-off involves a lot of running-on-water and frantic

wing action. In flight, there is a lot of (almost) disjointed flapping. Landing is barely more than a controlled splash onto the water.

But, who knows, fishing under water, out-of-sight, the cormorant may be a quick and graceful athlete.
