Hi dear friends
Maranjab Desert in Kavir National Park.
In June 2010, We traveled to the Kavir National Park at central desert of Iran. Me and my family traveled to the Maranjab desert on the southern side of the Sea of Salt. First we traveled to the historic city of Kashan and Aran o Bidgol, and from there we targeted the Sea of Salt. On our way we explored the desert and saw the beauty of the new and amazing scenery for first time and coloring this normally arid landscape and the creatures of the desert. I know that this area is mostly sand and desert. I designed and produced Schema on the sand and my wife and my son 'AmirAhmad' assisted me to print these new seals in the sand and then took photos of me, while I worked.
The best photos can be taken in the early morning or the late afternoon when the sun is at its lowest.
We visited and old fortified building which served the travelers of the caravan (Maranjab Carawansara that I'll soon upload an image of it) in the southern part of the Sea of Salt. It was amazing to see such a paradise in the middle of desert and imagine in the old time when people trod the Silk Road and after Eighty kilometers walk each day used it as a place of rest.
On our way one of my vehicles had a puncture. I didn’t want to risk driving on the spare wheel, so I decided to drive Fifteen kilometer back and repair my tire then continue my journey. Our final destination was the sand dunes after the Sea of Salt. We drove to south east part of the sea which has no water but is wet.
It looked like a magical land and we felt that we were on anther planet.
Kavir National Park (پارک ملی كوير in Persian), also known as Kavir-e Namak or Great Salt Desert is a large desert lying in the middle of the Iranian plateau. It is about 800 kilometers (497 mi) long and 320 kilometers (198 mi) wide with a total surface area of about 77,600 square kilometers (~30,000 mi²), making it the world's 23rd largest desert[2]. The area of this desert stretches from the Alborz mountain range in the north-west to the Dasht-e Lut ("Emptiness Desert") in the south-east and is partitioned between the Iranian provinces of Khorasan, Semnan, Tehran, Isfahan and Yazd. It is named after the salt marshes (kavirs) located there. The Dasht-e Kavir's climate is almost rainless and the area is very arid. Temperatures can reach 60 °C in summer, and the average temperature in January is 25 °C. Day and night temperatures during a year can differ up to 70 °C. Rain usually falls in winter. The desert soil is covered with sand and pebbles; there are marshes, lakes and wadis. The hot temperatures cause extreme vaporization, which leaves the marshes and mud grounds with large crusts of salt. Heavy storms frequently occur and they can cause sand hills reaching up to 40 m in height. Some parts of Dasht- e Kavir have a more steppe-like appearance.
