Dear Carl, the Kingfisher ( in Germany he's blue and orange) is my favourite bird. He's very shy. You made me happy with that wonderful shot! Thank you very much. L and YS. Greetings, Karl. PS: My actual gallery is out of order, I don't know why. So I managed to activate my old one.

Thank you so much for the L & YS, Enson and Karl! Yes, the blue and orange kingfisher is the Eurasian or common kingfisher, which is a very handsome bird indeed. Unfortunately we don't have them here. Your other gallery's working fine for me, Karl.

Hi Carl. I have been trying and trying to get a shot of a Kingfisher and I have yet to get it. I hope that when I finally do, it turns out half as good as this shot of yours. Like

Thank you very much Cathy! I was just resting on a log with the camera in my lap when he landed on a nearby log, so I was pretty lucky. I watched him catch a fish too, but I wasn't quick enough.

What size is this cute chap Carl? Lovely capture ~ cheers, Maja

seabow on October 3, 2010

Hi Maja. They're normally about the size of a pigeon, but I don't think this juvenile's quite that big yet. All the best ~Carl

That's a wonderful shot to be proud of. I have only a few but not as good as this. They seem to positively hate to be photographed!

seabow on October 5, 2010

Thanks Nawitka! Actually I was just sitting on a beach log, camera in my lap, hoping some otters might show up (they didn't on that occasion), when this fellow landed on an adjacent log. Gift-wrapped for me :)

Another excellent shot, Seabow. Wonderful capture! The kingfishers around here barely land long enough for me to see them - I certainly haven't had an opportunity to get a shot. Very nicely composed! YS Cheers from Ontario, Patty
