Nice fresh river with clean water, in an arid time.

The waterfall in the background adds some freshness to the global feel of this picture

I guess your climate, which is for 11 months the same as our hottest week in the year, makes such fresh spots especially delightful !

Thanks for sharing this one with us, Lana.

Hi Philippe, thanks for the comment. When I took this picture in August 2008, we were in winter. That year, the winter was not as dry as this year. I returned in September and could not go to this place because the park was closed to tourism because of the fire which destroyed almost 70% of its area. Watch the video. surely you do not understand the language, but the images speak for themselves.

I saw the pictures of that Minas Gerais TV (I guess that's what MG TV stands for). It's quite classic for us as we have the same pictures every year when the mediterranean forest burns in southern France, so I can understand what it mean.

Are they planting the area again ? There are techniques now used in the mediterranean areas of France that prevent fires from spreading too fast, I hope they'll use (or adapt) those techniques to the local ecosystem.

Little of topic comment : Why didn't Ghislaine Pereira who was in school with me look like your Gislaine Ferreira TV host ?!? And who casts the female TV hosts / journalists for MG TV ? That guy has the best job in the world !!!

lana maria miranda on September 30, 2010

You liked the Gislaine huh?? Naturally, she's really beautiful. It was Miss Brazil. She was a colleague of my son at the School of Journalism. She is competent and pretty, so it was chosen by TV Globo. She is a kind of girl time. You're right, the Journal called MGTV because specific features news of Minas Gerais.

On the recovery of the area devastated by fire, it recovers with the rains that began this week (the area, the field is high, do not replant). The fire was criminal Here farmers often set fire to the grass just before the rains start to sprout grass ... But this practice is prohibited and the penalty is high for anyone caught.

Thanks for reading!

PS. If interested, the link has some interesting articles about MG, as Terra de Minas.

I was in school with the beautiful water fairy, but your son's school friends look nice too :-)

No wonder she became a miss ! I clearly spotted her (Actually, she looks a bit like Aurélie, one of my girl-eye models).

In what kind of paper/media does your son work now ? And tell him to say Gislaine - if he still is in contact with her - that even up here in France, we spotted her beauty !

I've heard about that farmers setting the land on fire issue (altough if I remember well it was something in Indonesia, but the method may be the same, as the climate is tropical in both countries) and of course it has to get punished.

I know that those who set those fires in southern France risk up to 15 years in jail, and often get them if caught (and they are often caught).
