The palma is a kind of cactus that has no thorn. It is widely cultivated for feed to cattle in Sertão, the tropical semi-arid climate region in the Northeast Brazil.
現地ではパルマpalmaと呼ばれているトゲナシウチワサボテンは、熱帯半乾燥気候（高温のステップ気候、BSh気候）のセルトン地方（ブラジル北東部内陸部）でもっとも目に付く作物のひとつ。表面にブツブツはあるがトゲはない。ぶつ切りにして牛に与える。バイア州内陸などのレストランでは、名物料理として食卓に並ぶことがある。2006年3月8日撮影。
