Having walked several miles along the canals this year, and many other years, I had seen many Mallard and Moorhen chicks, but always very separate.

The strange thing here was that the Moorhen chicks were much younger than the Mallards, but they were mixing freely with them. I watched them for some time and could not see any adult Moorhen.

Could it be that the Mallards adopted them? Call me romantic!

No, I would never call you that Peter I like this notion very much. But again I question the timing.

All our birds are grown up and indistinguishable from their parents (almost!).

I love the idea that the Moor-hens have moved in with the ducks. Thats just wonderful and not romantic at all. It just appeals to our sense of community and oneness with mother nature (or summat like).

Have a good week ol' chum.

Kindest
