This statue of Leif Erikson, complete with Viking runes overlooks the Charlesgate ramps along Comm. Ave. The history behind the statue is quite an amusing tale interwoven with stories of many purported pre-Columbian Norse settlements along the New England coast.

Well, I know he's made of bronze but he's gotta be sporting a set of brass ones to be out in the snow in just a flimsy little skirt like that!

Bits-n-Pieces on October 6, 2010

LOLOLOLOL! But I'd bet the rest of him there under the skirt must not really like being out in that cold!

Steve Paxton on October 7, 2010

The saying about the "brass monkey" certainly fits this photo. I love his shawl he has on his shoulders. We are just getting nice weather - 25c today, wow, and you put this up, it makes me feel cold again. Happy snappin. Cheers D.

Bits-n-Pieces on October 11, 2010

Lief, the Lucky, is big in Canadian folklore but didn't know he settled 10,000 in Boston! Rafn's decipherment of the Runes should have been "He who laughs last laughs best" ;)

Bits-n-Pieces on October 15, 2010

LOL, you sure hit that nail on the head, Tery! I've seen this statue for so long I take it for granted. So I couldn't believe it when I read the story !
