South Lake after an early Fall storm dropped a few inches of snow.

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

An early season storm left a few inches of new snow on the high Sierra Nevada mountains outside of Bishop California. The leaves were still yellow and orange creating a beautiful Fall scene just above South Lake in the Inyo National Forest.

Very good shoot, looks like a drawing. Well done Luis

InstinctImages on November 18, 2010

Thanks Luis. When I first opened it in Photoshop I thought it looked like a painting and I'm not sure why. I didn't "photoshop" it other than correcting some errors and adjusting the basics like contrast and saturation.

Beautiful! How come there's snow on the tables, but not on the ground around them?

InstinctImages on February 4, 2011

Thanks for your comment nwcamera. BTW I didn't Photoshop this - it's basically out of the camera after the raw conversion.

Hi Walli - this was an early Fall (October 5th) storm so the ground was still fairly warm. The air was cold so the snow on the tables didn't melt as fast as the snow on the ground. You can see there's still some snow in the shade and on the trees and bushes but not on the ground.

Thanks for your comments and for visiting my gallery!
