Hi there, Banksy and Bitsy!
Tag, you're it!
Hi there Norrel and Gnarryl!
LOLOL Guy! You could be writing newspaper headlines! I went to make a link to this article on the Banksy art that appeared in Boston last spring, and so I laughed out loud when I saw the headline!
I love everything about this one, it has got so much in it, the wall - love the "follow your dreams" - cancelled.... the lighting and of course the love hearts...I am a romantic at heart - LOL
Thanks Dianne! The hearts weren't part of the Banksy work, but they do help it fit in! It's taken me since May to get this shot, because it seemed any other time I could get by it there was a car parked in front of it. So last week I got doubly lucky: no cars in the lot, and that absolutely perfect spotlight beam of light.
I came back here (to check if the painting was still there), and I have to agree on the lighting.
Thanks Norrel! Glad to see you back here!!!!! We've missed you!
I gotta admit, Bits , the image and mural have impact quality to them ! Is it just me , or does the figure in the mural bear a striking resemblance to Humphrey Bogart ?
Thanks Waldo! well, I'll take credit for the photo, though Banksy gets the kudos for the art! It does look like it could be Bogart, though it's interesting: so much detail in the face yet it still seems a bit vague. I loved how that happenstance light beam makes it look like the guy was caught in the act, and it's the Authority with the spot light that stamped the big CANCELLED.
Hey there Bits-n-Pieces - based on what I have read about Banksy and his abilities, I would almost bet you that he scouted this area and knew that the light would fall here at a certain time of day - and that's why he painted this masterpiece where it is and the size it is - ( just a theory ) and you were there to capture it !
Interesting to hear that Waldo. He'd have maybe really appreciated some other wider shots I got then, where another beam of light also falls on the left, throwing shadows of trash barrels on the whitewash. I almost posted that one.
Cool, cool, cool. You've caught something here, Bits, with that slash of light, and your title is perfect. In fact, the odd shape of the light is really in keeping with Banksy's rather odd style. It fits perfectly.
Thanks for the great commentary n1w! And you get partial credit for this one, since I wouldn't have even thought to have photographed and posted it if not for your pieces from SLC. Glad you appreciate it!
Another thing that is pretty neat about your shot is how the light is hitting the painter guy. The angle of the light is nearly perfect for how Banksy has shaded him. It's only off on the pail, and that's Banksy's fault for getting it wrong in the first place. Otherwise, it's a perfect addition to his whimsical yet pretty much spot on take on our day.
Hmmmmm, yeah, now that you say that and I look at it, the pail is painted as though it's lit from the left, while the guy's face is lit from the right! Maybe he did that intentionally as a metaphor for something.
Hmmmm - Pail Face ?
Hmm I guess we all have cancelled dreams this pall with the pail face is no exception.
All hail the pale pail!
And hail to all the great comments! Thanks Waldo, Erik, and Mr. Word!
But I'm thinking maybe his dreams weren't cancelled. Maybe they just kept getting lost due to Google Server Error 500s and django template errors!!!!! (sure has been an irritating night here on Panoramio!)
And what's funny is that spell check on this thing tells me 'cancelled' is spelled wrong and should only have one 'L'......Maybe it was the Spelling Police shining the spotlight on him!
Don't fret Bits - spell chock aieren't allwhahes korrext iffin you khnow whet I meen !
