Monemvasia, Griechenland

Monemvassia (Μονεμβασία) lies on a small peninsula off the east coast of the eastern finger of the Peloponnese. The upper town forms a deserted citadel. The town was founded by the Byzantines and served as a refuge for endangered ruler classes. It is perhaps the most picturesque village in Greece.
