Whenever I see these houses and manors and palaces with all their chimneys I think of the enormous amounts of firewood that must have gone to heat them during the centuries. No wonder there is not that many forests left in England.
Good point, Bo. But think of all the lowly workers who were kept employed to chop the trees down and stoke the fires, before sending the children up the chimneys to clean them!
