Al-Sayyid Muhiyudin Abu Muhammad Abdal Qadir Al-Jilani Al-Hasani Wal-Hussaini (born the first day of Ramadan, 470, in the town of Na'if, district of Gilan, Ilam Province, Persia, was a Persian Hanbali jurist and Sufi based in Baghdad.

Death and burial Al Gilani died in the evening of Saturday 1166 (11 Rabi'us sani 561AH) at the age of ninety-one years (by the Islamic calendar). His body was entombed in a shrine within his madrassa in Babul-Sheikh, Resafa (East bank of the Tigris) in Baghdad, Iraq. During the reign of the Safavid Shah Ismail I, Gilani's shrine was destroyed, however in 1535 the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman had a turba built over the shrine, which exists to this day. To the east of Baghdad, called "Al-Rosafa" or "Assawb al-kabir" (because it is larger than the west side on the Tigris named "Assawb Assaghir"), in Bab Al-Sheik ", is the mausoleum of Sheikh Abdul- Qader Al-Jilani. It is one of the best examples of Iraq’s Islamic architecture, where the traditional domes of bricks and gypsum mix admirably with the new false domes and Italian marble. The tomb was in a small room of the school but part of the building was transformed into a mosque that has been expanding over the years. The biggest dome in Iraq built in 941 A.H/ 1534 A.D is white and has impressive dimensions and splendid architecture and decorations which can be seen from afar. It has been repainted from time to time. In 1970, it was extensively restored: the blue dome was renewed and other domes, decorated with Qashani, were built close to the white dome.
