Dear Friends, This seems to be very close to the point where Air France 447 was lost on June 1, 2009. What a tragedy. Deepest sympathy and prayers for the loved ones of the passengers.

Hi Werther, thank you so much for the photos of this lonesome, ludicrous place. Must be so close to the place of the AF 447 tragedy. If there are scientists in the hut now, they must have realised something about that. How did you get to this place? Are you scientist or lighthouse service? I would like to hear from you! Greetings from Bavaria, Germany, Christian

Christian, the weather conditions were reportedly bad at the time, and it was the middle of the night, so even if the station was manned (it's only manned part-time) and the plane crashed within a few kilometers, it's unlikely to have been noticed. If you have ever been at sea at night in poor weather you will know what I mean.

Werther, thanks for the excellent photo of this place. How did you land on the rock? Did you use a Zodiac-type inflatable boat, or do you need something else?

Hi Gsisson, thanks for your commet. Even it is so sad, but I guess you are absolutely right. It seems, that noone survived the AF 447 disaster. But, please, only imagine if they find survivers sitting on those rocks ...... (wishful thinking). Christian, Bavaria, Germany

Hi Christian, yes it is very tragic. Some thorough analysis now puts the probable location the plane came down at somewhere around 3,290N 30,357W, which is over 100 km away from the rocks: http://www.weathergraphics.com/tim/af447/

Hi Werther, thanks for the reply. It is an extraordinary place. Was the station rebuilt after it was destroyed in 2006? There is little information in English about it.
