This oak tree stump in Kensington Gardens is decorated with many hand carved and hand painted gnomes, elves and pixies. Pink Floyd fans will recognise it from the picture on the inside sleeve of the Ummagumma album (vinyl LP). Sadly it needs to be caged and protected from subnormal vandals

This tree was being preserved by the one and only Spike Milligan for a long time. Use to see him inside the cage working on it. So I shall always connect it with him.

I may still have a newspaper cutting about Spike renovating this tree, but didn't know the cage was around it then

This tree could be the same age as the Reformer's Tree near Speaker's Corner in Marble Arch. Though the tree is no longer there, the spot is clearly defined and a convergence point of numerous footpaths at the bottom of the playing fields.
