Neyyar is better known for the Neyyar Dam across the river Neyyar. It is a popular picnic spot set against a back drop of pristine and diamond blue waters of this tranquil lake and the picturesque dam at its lower end. Rowing in the silence of the still waters, periodically broken by an orchestra of bird songs, is a spiritual experience that visitors are seldom able to resist.

Some rare and costly medicinal herbs grow in the surrounding forests. The Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is the home for over a hundred rare species of flora and fauna, and wild animals that abound this forest include elephants, buffaloes, wild boar, porcupines, tigers and a number of varieties of snakes. A crocodile breeding centre and a lion safari park are located near the dam.

An hour away from the Captial town of Trivandrum with fast railways, expressways and international airline connections, Neyyar is a soul soothing experience of a lifetime.
