Built as a junction, with Plymouth's main passenger stations elsewhere, 'North Road' survived the blitz to become Plymouth's only mainline station although two or three halts remain on the line through Stoke the dockyard and St Budeaux. John Betjeman famously wrote the ultimately damning description of the station after the limited rebuilding in the 1960s and the photograph above captures the soulessness perfectly.
