I found this aircraft in 1973/74 in the main corrie and the fuselage was intact . During my winter visit I had to take refuge inside the fuselage in"whiteout"conditions. While inside I found the makers plate which stated that the aircraft was built by the Mitchell Corp. and the model was a B25 completed in 1944. A year or two later I met a man who had served in the Royal Air Force during WW2 who told me that he was in the unit which was sent to rescue any survivors and recover any surviving documents and secret equipment. The craft was being ferried from the maker in America and was not armed or bombed and carried a ferry crew of three/four. Unfortunately all died at the scene and were buried in a local churchyard.

I would like to add that many of the ferry pilots and crew were women! Whatever their gender they were also among the unsung heroes who answered the call to defeat evil tyranny,I salute and mourn you.
