Reminds me on "Smoke on the Water" from Deep Purple VKeith

'Remember the song well! Based on a true story about a Casino in Geneva I think. This club was empty except for thousands of birds. There was a political dispute about whether to save it or not. Long story but it looked like arson to me.

Will it be rebuilt?

BTW: Wim de Vries This song involves about the fire in the Casino of --> Montreux in 1971 when Deep Purple were training for a concert.

I know polytropos, believe it or not, when we drove in a parking in Montreux this autumn, this song was in the radio :-)

The story from "Smoke On The Water"

I don't belive it used to look like that.

VKeith, on March 12, 2008, said:

Hi There, BenjA! Thanks for looking at my photos. Yes, One day it was looking just sort of- abandoned. Then, the next day it was burned to a skeleton. I believe it was slated for some kind of rehabilitation and resurrection as a historic place. Some suspect the owner objected to the public romance about the place and had something to do with it's ruin. Thanks again Benj! Greetings from Virginia, USA

a very sad day that was, although I enjoyed the arrival of the starling on the evenings now!!!

To be there must have been quite a shock. You have recorded a moment in history. Great shot. Bob

VKeith, on April 16, 2008, said:

Yes it was shocking, Bob and Nancy. The day before, we watched thousands of birds circling the place. The next day it was on fire. Thanks for looking.

VKeith, on April 26, 2008, said:

Yes, I have a whole series. From the day before, during and after the fire because I happened to spend the same weekend on Ship Street. It was apparently protected and slated for rehabilitation. The gossip was that the person who owned the newer pier didn't want that to happen. It was clearly an arson job. I met some older couple on the beach in tears because they dated in that place in their youth.

Great pic, Shame to see that old pier reduced to a rusting frame in hours after standing for over 140 years.

What a dramatic ending to this memorable & romantic venue to many souls..I plan to revisit the Pier this April, after some 20 years! & just knew about the fire today by chance..Any news of it being rebuilt? Anyway, its a great & quality shot by Keith.. Greetings from Shaari of Putrajaya, Malaysia.

I reckon it was the palace pier lot, because obviously if they were thinking of doing up west pier then their businesses would be under major threat. Great shot btw =]
