Hi k he looks like he only has one leg. I think he is related to Guys new bird. D
Hey Bitsy :) I've heard of bird on a wire, but bird on a stick... LOL could be an excellent recipe for next Thanksgiving!
He's no "Hopalong Chickadee" but he is very handsome! Nice Capture Bitsy! Smiles :)GG
P.S. All punishable puns, I know.
Thanks Dianne and GG! LOL, yeah, Guy's bird made me think to upload this shot I got the other day, especially since it looks like Guy's bird from the other side. Poor little guy was cold!
Great title! :D It does look like the Contender's flip-side!
What kind of Heron have you captured in this fine shot Bits - n - Pieces ? At first I thought you got a new fangled super telephoto lense and this was a shot of a heron in Masset from Massetchusetts - or maybe it's the other way around ?
beautiful warm colours :) nice catch :) like ~caroline
Thanks Waldo - LOL, the way they're both hunkered down fledglings sure does make them look like the same bird! But maybe it was Guy who got the photo of this heron at Horn Pond from the QCI - that's why his bird looks even smaller than mine!
I don't know if this is the same first year heron that Kamaly caught in the sticks last week, but there were about 15 babies in a heronry a few miles to the north this summer - so I'm thinking this and the other one might have been some of the tiny things in this shot from about 6 months ago.
Thanks very much carol~sst! it was a pretty sight there by the stream.
This definately looks like a cousin to Guy's bird. He looks cold though. Our Herons have left for winter.
This ugly grey dagnabbit bird is ruining the beautiful golden grass in the background!
He isn't ugly, Norrel! He's a cute little baby, out on his own for his first winter! But he did intrude on my photo of dried grass! ;)
Thanks Laurel! He was cold, poor little thing. Even mid-day it was still below freezing, and the windspeed was about the same as the temperature...felt so cold that this is one of the very few photos I clicked when on my walk. A lot of herons do seem to stay around here for the winter. As long as there are any breaks in the ice it seem they can fish ( or spear voles and things.) But I sure think this little guy would have been better off if he'd headed south.
Perhaps he can't go south, Bitsy. That's a long walk on one leg.
