Yes, Richard. This is an old part of the city where some of the older sandstone tenement buildings had reached the end of their useful lives and have been replaced by modern brick buildings keeping the same street shape.

You can see clearly here the policy of "nibbing" where the pavement is extended outwards at the entrance to the street. This policy is being adopted throughout Glasgow. It increases safety for pedestrians by narrowing crossing points, and also acts to slow down traffic in residential areas.

Having said that, Glasgow is still a city with very low car ownership. You can see that from the small number of parked cars compared to the large number of flats in the photo.
