My family use to spend summer vacations in these cabins. We were there in August of 1959. the foundations that you see here was the owners home I think it's hard to tell without seeing a larger area. We left about 7 days before the quake and luckly there were no famlies in the cabins the night of the quake. Grace was alone in her cabin with her dog and she told me a couple of years later that her dog saved her life by pulling her out of the cabin moments before the quake struck. Grace went up over the mountain to the east to a ranch qhere she stayed for several days. Remember the earth had broken (see picture) just east of the highway it was quite an ordeal considering her age and the fact that her night clothes were blowen off by the high winds. I wish I could remember his name but that is lost to me. for those of you who were fortunate enough to play board games at Graces kitchen table all i can say is WAHOO!
Wow. thanks for sharing the story. There was mention of a dog saving an elderly lady on one of the signs. I guess that was Grace. You can see the sign in this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lynetter/1150251788/
