The "Monastic" island has received the name from the Byzantian monastery existing there in IХ a century. In its walls princess Olga waited a storm on a way to Tsargrad in 957 year; Kiev prince Vladimir Veliky on the way in Chersonese in 988 year here stopped. Само название "Монастырский" остров получил от существовавшего там византийского монастыря, основанного в IХ веке. В его стенах княгиня Ольга пережидала бурю по пути в Царьград в 957 году; здесь останавливался киевский князь Владимир Великий в походе на Корсунь (Херсонес) в 988 году.
