I think, it must be a scan. You are right with your opinion. My actual camera reached the dynamic of a slide. More is just not possible with digital technic. We must still wait a few years to reach the quality of a analog negative, which is 5 - 10 x better as slides.

No Leo it's digital photo made with my Samsung GX-10 equivalent to the Pentax K 10. I emphasized colours and contrasts by software treatment in order to give this impression of a scanned negative...
You are probably right about the quality of your Pentax K5 reaching that of a slide. Personally I never got with digital cameras the same delicacy in shades that I used to get with analog Fuji film premiun (and Carl Zeiss lenses). Here an example of a slide.
