This photograph was taken on a walk from Haweswater going around The Rigg continuing on around to Cart Crag then climbing up onto Castle Crag. There isn’t much to indicate that there was a castle once their. We then ascended over rough ground to Low & High Raise. Turning Southwest he head towards a path between Kidsty Pike &Knott. Some of the party decided to descend via Kidsty Pike. Then onto High Street until we reached Thornwaite Crag with the beacon. From here we knew we had to go over Mardale Bell, so headed for the first lump, unfortunately that was Froswick. Being the least fit, I was trailing two fit men and whilst taking the odd photograph, I was always playing catch up. The leader had his new GPS, and I had mine. We then climbed over Ill Bell and were half way up Yoke before I shouted to the leader to check his map, as I had done a realised we had gone slightly wrong. Oops, backtracking to Mardale Ill Bell, which is just a flat moor. Descending down alongside Small Water and following Mardale Beck back to the car.
The walk is approximately 13.35 miles (should have been about 9 miles), with a maximum height of 2710 ft and a total height ascended of 4426ft.
Taken in 2003 on my first Olympus Digital Camera.
