LST behind Lord Island, at Diblee Dike. This ship is in the process of being maintained by a volunteer group. The tank landing ship, or LST, was a vision of Winston Churchill in WWII. They were constructed to haul and off-load heavy armorments on beaches. In total 1051 were constructed, the largest single ship class ever built for the navy. Few are still in existance.

Ship no longer being restored by AFMM. River pirates have stripped metal out for drugs and Coast Guard has declared the ship as a hazard. Unknow as of 5-17-09 what disposal will be. Cannot be taken to sea and sunk.

I am sorry to hear of the vandalism. This is a unique ship, and certainly one not deserving the fate forced by the thieves.
