Just about 3-4 miles up the coast, just out of shot is a huge nuclear powerstation, Sellfield, formally known as Windscale. in 1957 the worst nuclear power accident in British history occured, releasing radioactive contamination into the surrounding area.

The disposal plant used to deal with the nuclear waste is only about 5 miles south of this town. The public are forbidden to go on the beach by the powerstation or the disposal plant, yet they can in the town of Seascale in the middle. While I was there the whole beach was full of families and kids running around and playing in the sea.
