The last remains of Fisherwick Park - originally built in 1774 by Capability Brown for the Marquis of Donegal. Reputedly a mansion surrounded by excellent grounds. Demoloshed c1810 when bought by the Howards of Elford, who divided it into farms - only these gateposts, the wall along the road towards Elford and the lodge still remain.

Hope this helps

Thanks, BrownhillsBob. Nice to know, and an archive for the future when the origins are forgotten! I often cycle that way from Tamworth, and have always been intrigued by them. Just to the left in the background you can see where the road is being diverted to allow for the removal of the level crossing, part of rail tracks upgrading of the West Coast main line.
