A Week-end Ritual (Eynali daği, Tabriz, تبریز)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Eynali was a barren mountain on top of which there was a huge white rectangular antenna facing Tabriz city. The old building was claimed to be a shrine that housed the burial site of an Imamzadeh (a descendant of the profit of Islam). Friday mornings a fairly small group of young males would climb near the shrine. They could not do much due to heavy presence of plain cloth militia members who suppressed any form of mischievous behavior. In recent years trees have been planted around the shrine and the suppression has subsided to a level that the presence of females is noticeable.
