View of Haigh Hall , looking north east over Wigan with Winter Hill in the background. In the foreground is Trencherfield Mill , now part of Wigan College.

How high is the tv mast?
Galatas, on April 9, 2007, said:
The mast is 1015 feet high, it was built in 1965 by the Independent Television Company for Granada Television, and is now owned by NTL. Winter Hill itself is 1498 feet above sea level. There is plenty of further information about both the hill and the transmitter on Google.

Well I believe you of course Galatas. Must be because I've never viewed it from Bilinge, and the "zoom" factor. I don't know a lot about photography but I still enjoy it! Thanks for the photo.

Yes I agree , that very compressed perspective that you get with telephoto lenses makes it difficult to put geographic features in their proper place in relation to one another. Take a look at the recent additions to my online gallery if you have time. http://galatas.smugmug.com/

Great picture! However, just to correct one piece of information....Trencherfield Mill (as was) is now luxury apartments. The building has been totally renovated.

Nice shot....where did you take it from? It seems you had a really elevated position. As a resident of Wigan I fell I should point out that the large building in the foreground isn't Trencherfield mill. The building is actually the Pagefield building which is just off Bridgeman Terrace and is part of Wigan College.

Thanks for the correction , your are correct the building is in fact Pagefield Mill not Trencherfield. The view is from Worsley Hall
