This is a very nice picture of the Nine Arches in Newton-le-Willows, that straddles what's left of the Sankey Ship Canal that used to be part of a network of canals that moved products between cities, before highways had been invented. The Nine arch Sankey Viaduct, it was the first nine arch viaduct constructed - I lived in Newton-le-Willows and many times have walked under these arches, also when spud picking for the farm to the right of that picture - I still class myself as a Newtonian xx Thank you for bringing back happy memories for me, we used to swim in the canal when it was cleaner and play on the disused barges using our imaginations having them as pirate ships with treasures and monsters lurking in the water xx
