Central, 1959

Land of tycoons, Hong Kong whets the appetites of financiers and the fantasies of day-traders. But the Pearl of the Orient also attracts those in search of adventure. In Hong Kong, it seems like everything is still possible. A tour of the city in pictures from 1957 to 1960. This photograph was taken looking down a typical street towards Central, in a bustling and busy time of day.

Thank-you Lim, I thought the pictures in Malaysia would have been of great interest to you, but the Old Hong Kong gallery has created a lot of interest. Your Sarawak pictures were of great interest to me Cheers Gordon

WOWWWW!!! Absolutely priceless photo!!! Can't believe HK was this chaotic 50 years back. Now it's one of the world's most prominent financial centres.

Hi Ivan

Go to "reggief340". He was in Hong Kong as a little boy, and you can see some of his comments here, some of these back streets are still recognisable.

Best of lick. Gordon

This shot is one for the museum!

Gordon670 on January 19, 2013

Hi Sam,

Do you live in Hong Kong now?

If you want to take a copy and go and show them in the museum, please do so and I can then send them certified originals

best wishes Gordon

I used to be a HK resident for 3 years, 2 decades ago, and have returned to Manila since. But I frequently travel to HK with my family during school breaks - since it's only an hour and half flight from where I reside. Thanks for sharing those wonderful B&Ws.
